Joseph M. ‘Joe’ Moloney

LOWELL Joseph M. ‘Joe’ Moloney, 62, of Lowell, passed away after a long illness January 12, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Dorothy (Hamel) Moloney with whom he shared the last 36 years of marriage.


He was born in Tewksbury on June 28, 1954 and was a son of the late Francis P. Moloney and the late Lorraine H. (Ashe) Moloney. Joe was raised in Lowell where he attended St. Peters Grammar School before graduating from Lowell High School.

Joe resided in the South Lowell neighborhood of Lowell for many years and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. He was a roofer, and was also employed as a custodian for MIT Haystack Observatory in Groton for 35 years until illness forced his retirement 4 years ago. He enjoyed spending time at his home as well as spending time with his family on Cape Cod.

In addition to his wife, Dorothy of Lowell, he is survived by two daughters, Lauren Pollone and her husband, Marc of Tewksbury, and Katelyn Goddard and her husband, Michael of Lowell; and one grandson, Conor Joseph Pollone of Tewksbury. He is also survived by four brothers, Patrick Moloney and his wife, Maureen of Londonderry, NH, Peter Moloney and his wife, Kim of Dracut, Kevin Moloney of Lowell, and Richard Moloney and his wife, Lisa of Lowell; a sister in law, Deborah Ramsden and her husband, Charles of Lowell; and two brothers in law, Frederick Hamel and his wife, Eileen of Derry, NH and Richard Hamel and his wife, Lisa of Derry, NH. He is the son-in-law of Laura (Darling) Hamel and the late Frederick Hamel of Lowell.

He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Kara, Allison, Shannon, and Kelly Moloney, Kristen, Steven and his wife, Carolann, and Timothy Ramsden, Jennifer Hindle and her husband, Lou, Frederick and his wife, Anna, and Kelly and Christopher Hamel, and will be missed by several cousins and his many friends.

Joe was predeceased by his aunt, the late Anne Marie Moloney, who stepped in to raise the Moloney boys after their mother, Lorraine passed away.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS FROM 3 UNTIL 7 P.M. ON MONDAY, JANUARY 16, 2017.

ON TUESDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BEGIN AT 10 A.M. AT IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 144 EAST MERRIMACK STREET, LOWELL. BURIAL IN ST. PATRICK CEMETERY.
