Joseph J. Sousa

LOWELL       Joseph J. Sousa, 87, a longtime Dracut resident, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.   He was the beloved husband of Dolores (Agrella) Sousa for the past Sixty Seven years.

     A son of the late Franciso Sousa and the late Jesuina (Mendes) Sousa, he was born June 24, 1930, in Lowell, and was raised and educated in Lowell.  After High School, he served with the Military Police Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

     For over thirty years, he was a Union cement finisher, and owned his own business for a time.   He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and enjoyed time spent with family, especially his grand children and great grand children.  He was also an avid follower of local sports teams, including the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

      In addition to the love of his life, Dolores, he will be sadly missed by his daughter, Beverly (Sousa) and her husband, William Gray Sr., of Dracut; his grandchildren, Melissa (Gray) and her husband, Ronald Lord Jr., of Dracut, William Gray Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Dracut, and Jessica (Gray) and her husband, Jose Faria Jr., of Dracut; his great grandchildren, Meegan and McKayla Lord, Christina, Lauryn and Ryan Gray, and MacKenzie, Haylee and Madison Faria; and several nieces and nephews.

     He was also the father of the late Joseph J. Sousa Jr., and a brother of the late Joe Sousa, the late Mary Constance Sousa, the late Frank Sousa, the late Matilda Anderson and her husband Al, the late Manuel Sousa and his wife, Rita, the late John Souza and his wife, Evelyn, and uncle of the late Manuel Steven Sousa, the late Jackie Souza.

          YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 8:30 UNTIL 10 A.M. ON THURSDAY MORNING AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.  HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL ST., LOWELL  AT 11 A.M..  BURIAL IN ST. PATRICK CEMETERY
