Joseph Brostek
Retired Lowell Firefighter
LOWELL Joseph Brostek, 87, of Haverhill, formerly of Lowell and Clearwater Florida, died surrounded by his loving family, after a period of declining health Friday, April 13, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center. He was the husband of Mary (Petrou) Brostek, with whom they would have celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary next February.
Born September 27, 1924, in Clinton, MA, he was a son of the late Joseph, and the late Florence (Bugnacky) Brostek. He was educated in Lowell at the St. Stanislaus Parochial School, and was also a graduate of Lowell High School.
As a young man Mr. Brostek joined the United States Navy during World War II and fought in the Pacific. After the war he came back to Lowell, got married, and became a Lowell Firefighter. He was with the Lowell Fire Department for 33 Years, retiring in 1988.
He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Polish Church, and a member of the Polish club, as well as the Firefighters Club. He enjoyed taking trips to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun where he could be found playing Blackjack and Keno. He also loved watching football and college basketball.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, Dorothy and her husband Bob Dube of Methuen, William and his wife Priscilla Brostek of Nashua, NH, Mary and her husband Dennis Ferreira of Lowell, and Robert Brostek and his partner Dawn Finney of Manchester, NH; Two sisters Helen Marino of Taunton, and Irene and her husband Rudy Schultz of Pepperell. He is also survived by Four step daughters, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a great great grand daughter, as well as his favorite brother in law Lenny Connolly of Lowell and his Godchild Kate Carney of Chelmsford.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy (Connolly) Brostek who passed away in 1980, and he was the brother of the late Florence Nelson.
