Jose G. Picanco
LOWELL Jose G. Picanco, 76, of Lowell, passed away after a brief illness Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Northwood Rehabilitation Center. He was the widower of the late Alzira N. (Machado) Picanco who passed away in 2012 after fifty years of marriage.
Born in the Azores, Portugal on July 5, 1940, he was a son of the late Frederico Picanco and the late Elise Picanco. He was raised and educated in Graciosa and was a fisherman in Portugal until he relocated to the United States in 1972 settling first in Cambridge and then in the 1990’s, he made his home in Lowell where he resided until his death.
He was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony Church and had worked in a candy factory in Cambridge when he first came to the United States for many years before his retirement. Jose loved fishing and in addition to being a fisherman in Portugal, he continued fishing whenever he was able.
He is survived by his children, Maria A. Silva and her husband, Jose of Nashua, Jose E. Picanco and his wife, Wendy of Lowell, Manuel G. Picanco of Lowell, and Fernando J. Picanco and his wife, Lisa of Tewksbury. He is also survived by his brother, Manuel F. Picanco; his sister, Roberta Teixeira; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
