Jose I. Teixeira
LOWELL Jose I. Teixeira, 91, of Lowell, died Monday, January 14,
2013, at his home after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving
family. For the past Fifty Nine years, he was the devoted husband to
Carolina B. (Fernandes) Teixeira.
A son of the late Jose and the late Alexandrina Teixeira, he was
born July 28m 1921, on Madeira Island in Portugal, and grew up and was
educated in that area and served with the Portuguese Military. While
in Madeira, he worked as a gardener for more than twenty years.
Since 1989, he has made his home in Lowell, and was a
communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and an active member of the
Parish. He was also a member of the Portuguese American Civic League.
He worked as a groundskeeper for Pine Ridge Cemetery in the Town of
Chelmsford for seven years before retiring. In his spare time, he
enjoyed walking and gardening.
Besides his wife, Carolina, he is survived by his five
daughters, Celina Teixeira and her husband, Henrique, of Madeira,
Teresa Teixeira and her husband, Pedro (Joe) Goncalves of Lowell,
Natividade Teixeira of Lowell, Olinda Fernandes and her husband,
Armando, of Tewksbury, and Lucinda Valente and her husband, Cesar, of
Lowell; his daughter in law, Eugenia Teixeira, widow of the late Jose
Alvaro Teixeira.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, Celso Teixeira of
Jersey, England, Nuno Teixeira and Cesar Teixeira both of Madeira, and
Felicia Valente of Lowell; and his great grand daughter. Jose also
had a special love for Susan Valente and Stephanie V. Wiggins of
Lowell along with Filipa and Neuza Capinha of Lowell, whom he
considered his granddaughters. He is also survived by many nieces and
nephews both in the United States and in Madeira.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 17. ON FRIDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT
THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL (978 OR 800)
458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH,
