Jose C. Dias
LOWELL Jose C. Dias, 79, of Lowell, died after a brief illness, Monday, August 10, 2009 at Blaire House of Tewksbury. He was the husband of Dorothy (Nazare) Dias, with whom he shared over fifty years of marriage.
Born July 21, 1930, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was a son of the late Jose, and the late Rose Marie Dias. He came to the United States in the early 1960’s, settling in Lowell’s Back Central Street neighborhood for over thirty-five years.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and a member of the Portuguese American Center “The Blue’s Club”. He was employed as a leather worker for over thirty years in Lawrence, MA. He enjoyed playing cards and was a avid fisherman.
Besides his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by a son, Joseph Dias and his wife, Margaret, of Tewksbury; two grandchildren, Michael Dias and Christopher J. Dias, both of Tewksbury; two sisters, Maria DeSousa, of Lowell, and Lina Dias, of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal; two brothers, Manuel Dias, of Lowell, and Valquiro Dias, of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews.
