John E. ‘Pops’ Smith

BILLERICA John E. ‘Pops’ Smith, 85, of Billerica, died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Lowell General Hospital after a long illness. He was the widower fo the late Olive M. (Faria) Smith who died in January 2000.
Born March 23, 1926, in Billerica, he was a son of the late William C. and the late Mary E. (Bedard) Smith, and is the last surviving of their twelve children. He was raised and educated in Billerica and made his lifelong home in Billerica.
He loved his family, music, especially the guitar, and was a real outsdoorsman, but also enjoyed spending time at home.
He worked for Raytheon Corportation in Burlington and South Lowell until his reitrement in 1992.
His survivors include his children,Teri Nardini of Franklin, MA, Edward Smith and his wife, Barbara of Billerica, Daniel Smith of Lowell, James Smith and his wife, Dianne, of Pelham, NH, Michael J. Smith of Billerica, George A. Smith of Billerica, Dennis A. Smith of Pelham, NH, and Joseph A. Smith of Billerica; eighteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the father in law of the late Diane Smith.
