John Chet Sakalinski

MEDFIELD John F. (Chet) Sakalinski, age 86, beloved husband of the late Rita (Meagher) Sakalinski, died peacefully Friday, December 6, 2013 at his home in Medfield, Massachusetts surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Lowell on April 27, 1927, John was the son of the late Stanley and Antonina Sakalinski and the brother of Evangeline (Vangie) Howcroft of Lowell. He was also the brother of Francis Sakalinski and Alice Kapala who predecease him. John lived in Lowell for many years and enjoyed six years in Boulder, Colorado. He has lived in Medfield for the past seventeen years.

A graduate of Lowell High School, John worked as a senior process control engineer for General Electric for over 42 years. He is survived by his three daughters, JoAnne Sakalinski of Dracut, Susan Brooks and her husband, John L. Brooks III of Medfield, and Judith Murphy of Lowell. John had six grandchildren, Katherine and Robert Brooks, and Matthew, Elizabeth, Abigail, and Eryka Murphy; and two great grandchildren, Zoeshka and Lilliana. He had many nieces and nephews, including Donna Perry and her husband, Neill; and his special family friends, Johnny G. (Gauthier) and Nancy Brooks.

John enjoyed fishing, bargain hunting, listening to polka music, puttering in the shop, fixing things, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his many friends, and his canine companions, most notably, Teddy.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 9. ON TUESDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 8:30 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. MARGARET PARISH, 374 STEVENS STREET, LOWELL AT 9:30 A.M.. BURIAL IN ST. PATRICK CEMETERY. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, DONATIONS IN JOHN'S MEMORY CAN BE MADE TO THE JOSLIN DIABETES CENTER, ONE JOSLIN PLACE, BOSTON, MA 02215
