John P. McGonigle
CHELMSFORD John P. McGonigle, 91, of Chelmsford, died after a long illness, Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at his home with his wife of Forty One years, Isabelle (Sousa) McGonigle at his side.
A son of the late Patrick S. McGonigle and the late Catherine (Glynn) McGonigle, he was born January 7, 1922, in Waltham, growing up in that area, where he received his education. He worked for the Waltham Watch Factory. When World War II broke out, he volunteered to serve his Country with the United States Army. While serving, he played on the official baseball team of the U.S. Army before deploying to fight in France, England, and Belgium where he served the longest. After his honorable discharge, he returned to work for the Waltham Watch Factory, and played baseball on their team. He then worked for Raytheon Corporation in Waltham, where he worked as a mechanic and group leader in the salvage department for thirty six years prior to his retirement. He was also a member of IBEW while working at Raytheon. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Woodworking was also one of his hobbies.
Making his home in Chelmsford for the past fifty years, he was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church.
In addition to the love of his life, Isabelle, he is survived by his daughter, Estelle T. McGonigle of Wayland; his brothers in law, Alfred Sousa of Billerica, John Sousa of Ayer, Michael Sousa and James Sousa, both of Chelmsford and his sister in law, Mary (Ferreira) Sousa of Chelmsford, and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Maureen (McGonigle) Visconti and father in law of the late Anthony Visconti, as well as brother of the late Christine Goodwin, the late Katherine McGonigle, the late Daniel McGonigle, the late Joseph McGonigle, and the late James McGonigle.
