John L. Lysz
“Shorty”

LOWELL John L. "Shorty" Lysz, 90, of Lowell, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, December 3 at Saints Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Lowell, July 14, 1919, the son of Simon and Pawlina (Stachoswska) Lysz.

He leaves behind his devoted wife Margaret (Onanian) Lysz, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage this past June 5th; his daughters, Nancy Lysz, with whom he resided, Patricia Lysz and her husband, Joseph Corcoran of Methuen as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins among them Monsignor John Abuciewicz. He was the brother of the late Stephanie Beaulieau, the late Anna Stecchi and the late Vincent Lysz.

During WWII, John served in the U.S. Army assigned to The Air Offensive Europe 448th Bombardment Group. He was a member of the Polish American Veterans.
John worked at American Textile and Leather in Lowell. Later, he worked for The Lowell Department of Public Works for many years before his retirement. He also worked part time at The Vesper Country Club. John was educated at St. Stanislaus School and was a graduate of Lowell High School. He was a Communicant of the Holy Trinity Polish Church and a member of Longmeadow Golf Club.

John had a great love for his family enjoyed taking family trips and traveling with his wife, Margaret, and their friends. He also enjoyed his family pets and had a special love for animals.

Memorial donations may be made to The Home Health VNA, 360 Merrimack Street, Lawrence, MA 01843, Saints Medical Center Foundation, 155 Merrimack Street, PO Box 7075, Lowell, MA 01852, The American Lung Association or Linwood Animal Hospital Good Samaritan Fund.

The family would like to thank Dr. Zaheer Ahmed, the staffs of Saints Medical Center, Home Health VNA, NE Rehabilitation Center and Life Care of Merrimack Valley for their care and compassion.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS FROM 2 UNTIL 6 P.M. ON SUNDAY DECEMBER 6. ON MONDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 10 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
