John J. Lynch

ANDOVER         John J. Lynch, Jr., 85, died peacefully on December 31, 2008 at Prescott House, North Andover after a long illness. He had previously lived in Andover and Fairfield, CT.  He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (McDonough) Lynch who died December 17, 2008. They were married at St. Peter's Church, Lowell on February 26, 1949.

         Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late John and Theresa (Doherty) Lynch.  He graduated from Lowell High School and began a long career in retail sales promotion and marketing at the former Bon Marche Co. in Lowell.  He worked for the DM Read Co. of  Bridgeport, CT for 25 years, retiring as senior vice president.  Following his retirement he was an active community volunteer with special devotion to hunger, homelessness and social justice.

         He is survived by five children, Margaret L. Barrett (Stephen) of Beverly Farms; John J. Lynch, III (Deborah) of Warwick, N.Y.; Kevin A. Lynch (Julia) of East Hampton, CT; Marian E. Lynch of Woodside, N.Y. and Elizabeth M. Lynch of Southport, CT; seven grandchildren, Owen J. Barrett of New York City; S. Benedict Barrett of Santa Cruz, CA; Cara, Maura and John J. Lynch, IV of Warwick, N.Y.; and Patrick J. and Timothy J. Lynch of East Hampton, CT.  Also surviving, his brother Kevin A. Lynch, C.S.P. of New York City; sisters-in-law Elinor Palmer Lynch of Concord; Margaret McDonough Rynne of Lowell; Virginia McDonough MacLellan of Tewksbury and Constance McDonough McInerney of Chelmsford.  He was predeceased by his brother James Doherty Lynch and sister M. Patterson Lynch Alexander.

          A Memorial Mass for John and Elizabeth will be held Saturday, January 24 at 11 am at The Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola, Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT.  Burial will be private.  Arrangements by the McDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND ST., LOWELL MA (978 OR 800) 458-6816.
