John S. Branco

Loving Grandfather

LOWELL John S. Branco, 91, Lowell, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at his home. He was the widower of the late Mary A. (Felix) Branco.

Born November 26, 1919, in Faial, Portugal, he was a son of the late Jose S. and the late Rose (Emilia) Branco, and was educated in that area. While in Portugal, he worked for the United States Army in Terciera. In 1960, he came to the United States to join his family who came to the Lowell area a year before.

Mr. Branco was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and was a member of the Holy Ghost Society and the Portuguese American Center ‘the Blues Club’. John also enjoyed gardening and tending to grape vines, as well as spending time with his grandchildren.

He worked for Malden Mills as a machine operator in Lawrence for over thirty years before his retirement.
He is survived by his son, Joseph Branco and his wife, Nancy, of Tyngsboro; his two grandsons, Joseph A. Branco Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Hudson, NH, and Steven M. Branco and his wife, Valerie, of Lowell; four great grandchildren, Kelsy Marie Branco of Lowell, Matthew Joseph Branco of Hudson, NH, Evan Joseph Branco of Lowell, and Molly Lillian Branco of Hudson, NH; and many nieces and nephews.

BRANCO YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON MONDAY. ON TUESDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
