Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Brother
LOWELL Joao B. Silva, 88, of Lowell, died after a lengthy illness Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Lowell General Hospital Saints Campus. He was the husband of Georgina (Mendonca) Silva, with whom he married in 1964 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal.
Born October 22, 1923, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and he was a son of the late Manuel Silva and the late Olivia (Silva) Silva. Joao came to the United States in January of 1970 to reunite with other members of his family, settling in Lowell.
He resided in Lower Belvidere for over 35 years, and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. He was employed as a machine operator for Paris Shoe Company for many years and later for Wang Laboratories for five years before his retirement. Joao was an avid soccer fan, supporting the FC Porto Team. He also enjoyed listening to the radio and traveling, especially to Graciosa with his wife, Georgina for many years. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Georgina, he is survived by a son, Manuel C. Silva and his wife, Iria of Tewksbury; a daughter, Maria I. Silva and her husband Brivaldo of Canada; four grandchildren, John Silva and his wife, Helena of Canada, Nelson Silva and his wife, Kelly of Canada, Christine Krusper and her husband, Steve of Tewksbury, and Kevin Silva and his wife, Amy of Maine; seven great grandchildren, Sara and Stephany Krusper of Tewksbury, Benjamin and Maria Silva of Maine, and Chloe, Mateo, and Marlon Silva all of Canada; two sisters, Rosa Espinola and her husband, Manuel of Lowell, and Maria Horta and her husband, Edelberto of Lowell and Graciosa; a brother, Juventino Silva and his wife, Laurinda of Lowell; two sister in laws, Durvalina Silva and Maria Noemia Silva both of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his brothers, the late Manuel Silva, the late Alexandrino Silva, and the late Saleotino Silva; brother in law of the late Maria Cunha; and his first wife, Cidalia A. Silva who passed away in 1958.
