James A. Vinas, Jr.
LOWELL James ‘Jim’ A. Vinas, Jr., 54, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away after a brief illness at Palm Center in Chelmsford and Life Choice Hospice.
A son of the late James Sr. and the late Mary (Petrakos) Vinas, he was born March 26, 1961 in Lowell. For the past few years before becoming disabled he worked in maintenance for Motel 6 in Tewksbury. Previously, he worked at the Boston & Maine Railroad. Jim enjoyed throwing darts and playing pool. He was also known for being a ‘Jack of All Trades’ and could fix anything.
He is survived by his only daughter, Stephanie (Vinas) Southworth and her husband, Jeff and his beloved granddaughter, Peighton, of Lowell; his siblings, Arthur Vinas and Jason Vinas both of Lowell, and Marianne Vinas of Florida. He is also survived by an uncle, Fr. Mark Vinas of California; and his aunts, Iris Ketcham of Las Vegas, Mrs. Alice Harkins and her husband, Kennith of Lowell, Ms. Nancy Vinas and her fiancee, Richard Larochelle of Lowell, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rotondi of Billerica, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Spatcher of New Jersey, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hood of Maine, Mrs. Anna Brown of Maine, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Petrakos of New Hampshire, and Ms. Tina Porter of Florida; as well as many cousins and many close friends.
Jim was predeceased by his long time partner, Pam Abreu; as well as his godfather, Charles Vinas.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Palm Center in Chelmsford for their compassion and care during his stay there.
