James P. Flaherty
CHELMSFORD James P. Flaherty, 83, of Chelmsford, passed away June 18, 2015, at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Marie G. (Coutu) Flaherty, with whom he celebrated their Thirtieth Wedding Anniversary last December.
Born March 16, 1932, in Woburn, he was a son of the late Thomas C. and the late Mary (McDonough) Flaherty, attended the local schools, and graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1949.
Mr. Flaherty served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and was awarded two Purple Hearts along with the United Nations Service Medal, the Parachuter’s Badge, the Korean Service Medal with Four Bronze Service Stars, and the Republic of Korea Pesidential Citation.
For the past two years, he resided in Chelmsford. He formerly made his longtime home in both Lowell and Acton, ME. He was an avid Red Sox fan and had a passion for playing cards, especially 45's, Spades and Cribbage. He also enjoyed attending yard sales, appreciated Irish Culture and specifically enjoyed singing Irish tunes.
Mr. Flaherty worked as draftsman for more than thirty years for Raytheon and Avco before his retirement.
Besides his wife, Marie, he is survived by his children, Diane F. Sheehan and her husband, Robert P., of Lowell, Patricia A. Snow and her husband, Roger J. of Lowell, Maryann Lennon and her husband, Allen, of Lowell, James P. Flaherty Jr. of Lowell, and Catherine A. Flaherty of Lowell; his seventeen loving grandchildren; his beloved great grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Sheerin and her husband, John, of Maryland, Helen Champlin of South Carolina, and Anna Rolli and her husband, John, of Florida; his step children, Gail Joseph and her husband, Daniel, of Leominster, Robert Urbowicz and his wife, Mary, of Chelmsford, Sheila Ayres of Belmont, Linda Perkins and her husband, Richard, of Lunenburg, and Ted Urbowicz and his wife, Kris, of Chelmsford; and his best friend, Dana Cross of Acton, ME, also, William "Pepper" Sheerin of New Hampshire. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and his dear friends and neighbor, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Bergeron.
He was also the father of the late Dorothy F. Flaherty, stepfather of the late Karen Urbowicz, brother of the late Thomas Flaherty and a close friend of the late Rita Sheerin.
