James Braga
LOWELL James Braga, 88, a lifelong Lowell resident, died Thursday, May 16, 2013, after a short illness. He was the husband of the late Marguerite (Cayer) Braga with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to her death in 2008.
A son of the late Manuel and the late Mary (Picanso) Braga, he was born October 30, 1924, in Lowell, and was educated in the Lowell Schools.
Mr. Braga worked for the Lowell Iron Foundry and the Graniteville Foundry in Westford. He was a communicant of Holy Family Parish, and was a member of the Chelmsford Elks, B.P.O.E., the Lowell Senior Center, and the Holy Ghost Society. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and new great grandfather who enjoyed the love of his family. He took pleasure in sightseeing, day trips, and travel adventures across the United States. His fondest memories included, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Ireland, England, and Japan. He especially liked the company of friends and dancing every weekend to big band music with his wife.
He is survived by his son, James Braga of Burke, Virginia; his daughter, Deborah O’Brien and her husband, Richard, of Lowell; his grandchildren, Matthew O’Brien and his wife, Prema, of Oakland, Ca, Andrew Braga of San Diego, CA, Adam Braga of Houston, TX, and Aaron Braga of Franklin, VA; his great grandson, Kirin O'Brien of Oakland, CA; his sister, Mary Varoski of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also a brother of the late Theresa Emond.
