Henry J. ‘Hank’ Dougherty
LOWELL Henry J. ‘Hank’ Dougherty, 79, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away peacefully at Fairhaven Healthcare Center in Lowell, February 19, 2018, which also was his Birthday.
A son of the late Thomas and the late Bernice (Newell) Dougherty, he was born in 1939 on February 19, in Lowell, and was educated in the Lowell Schools including the Carter School, the Butler Junior High School, and Lowell High School, Class of 1957.
Hank, as he was known throughout his lifetime, loved boxing and was the Fly Weight Champion in the New England Golden Gloves novice class. He joined the United States Army in 1958, serving in Fort Dix in the Finance Corp where he was in the Army Boxing Tournaments.
Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Lowell, working at the Courier Citizen until he moved to Los Angeles, California, working in the Commercial Bank Note Printing industry. He moved back to Lowell, and worked with Goodway Graphics before becoming affiliated with the North Reading GAF Facility where he worked until his retirement. He also was a member of Mt. Pleasant Golf Club and enjoyed golfing in general.
He was predeceased by his brothers Thomas, Francis, Neil, his niece Ann, and nephews Dennis, John and Sean, and is survived by his best friend, Judy Gaudette of Dracut; and many nephews.
