Helder M. Mello
LOWELL Helder M. Mello, 68, of Lowell, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the widower of Barbara M. (Terrell) Mello who passed away in April after 41 years of marriage.
A son of the late Joseph C. Mello and the late Luzia Bettencourt, he was born July 13, 1949 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal. He was raised and educated in the Azores. He came to the United States in 1968, settling in Lowell. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Lowell and was a longtime member of The Portuguese American Center - “The Blues Club” where he enjoyed passing the time with his friends. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling, especially trips to Cape Cod and will be sorely missed by his loyal dog “Buddy”.
He is survived by his sons; Joseph C. Mello and his wife, Brenda, of Lowell and John Pittman, his grandchildren; Taylor, Dominic and Kendra Mello all of Lowell.
YOU ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND HIS VISITATION AND FUNERAL. HIS VISITATION WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY, JULY 17 FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
ON TUESDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE FUNERAL HOME. A PROCESSION WILL FOLLOW ON TUESDAY FOR HIS FUNERAL MASS AT 10 A.M. AT ST. ANTHONY CHURCH ON CENTRAL STREET IN LOWELL, FOLLOWED BY HIS BURIAL.
