Gordon Hamilton
Lifelong Lowell Resident
Mr. Hamilton was born in Lowell on January 11, 1925. The son of James N. Hamilton and Mary (McGeever) Hamilton, he was educated at the Sacred Heart Parochial School, Lowell High School and Curry College. Mr. Hamilton was a World War II veteran serving as an Army Sergeant.
For several years, Mr. Hamilton was a radio personality. Many will remember him as the early morning host on WCAP Lowell from 1950 to 1963.
After 30 years of serving as a Health and Code Inspector for the city of Lowell, Mr. Hamilton retired.
He will also be remembered for hosting the Friday night Holy Trinity dances in the 1950’s and 1960’s and as a volunteer reader and news announcer for the Lowell Association for the Blind and the Christian Doctrine Hour.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish, the Big Band Academy of America, the Society of Singers and the Municipal Employees Association.
He is survived by 9 nieces and nephews and a brother in law, James E. Curry, Jr.
Mr. Hamilton is predeceased by his brothers, Rev. Nelson Hamilton, OMI, Donald Hamilton and James Hamilton and his sisters, Priscilla Crupi, Mary McNulty, Shirley Clough and Pearl Curry.
