Gianbattisto ‘John’ Polizzi
LOWELL Gianbattisto ‘John’ Polizzi, 81, of Lowell, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016, at Wingate of Belvedere. He was the widower of Sylvia Bornkoff (Michael) Polizzi who died in 2011.
A son of the late Emanuel and the late Angelina (Galante) Polizzi, and a brother of the late Leonard Polizzi (Thelma), he was born May 28, 1934, in New York City, and educated in Manhattan. He served with the United States Air Force and raced motorcycles while in the Air Force.
John worked in technology and was responsible for a major innovation in the entertainment systems of passenger jets.
A man of many hobbies, he loved photography, HAM Radio operations, auto racing, computers, bowling, and jewelry making. He organized the first Apple Computer Club on Long Island, NY. In his 70’s he became interested in Fractal (computer generated) Art; he became an artist and won several regional awards in New Jersey.
For most of his life, he resided in New York, and in 2011, he relocated from Crestwood Village, NJ to Lowell to be closer to his brother’s family. He was a member of the First United Baptist Church.
His survivors include his step daughter, Marti Michael (Harvey) of Long Island; his step son, John Michael (Cindy) of Fresno, CA; his brother Emanuel (Rev. Dr. Susan Panek Polizzi ) of Lowell; his granddaughter, Jessica Michael of Fresno, CA; and his nieces and nephews.
