Gertrude C. 'Trudy' Leoutsacos
LOWELL Gertrude C. ‘Trudy’ (Stimpson) Leoutsacos, 92, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2012 surrounded by her family, at Saints Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late K. Luke Leoutsacos who died in 1995.
Gertrude was born in Lowell on December 21, 1919, and was the daughter of the late Francis and Anne (Curran) Stimpson. She attended Saint Michael’s School.
A lifelong resident of Lowell, Trudy made her home with her daughter, Kathryn and son-in-law, Stephen. She worked in various jobs throughout her life including being a housewife until her children were in high school, a cafeteria worker in several Lowell public schools and a stenciler in the Raytheon South Lowell and Andover plants until her retirement in 1995.
Trudy is a former member of the Lowell, Merrimac and Nashua chapters of the Red Hat Society, as well as a member of the Raytheon Alumni Association, the Lowell Senior Center and the Nashua Elks B.P.O.E. #720.
She loved listening to talk radio nightly, solving her crossword puzzles, playing the lottery and taking trips to Foxwoods. Trudy loved all animals, especially dogs, in particular her friend Maggie. Trudy will be remembered by family and friends for her zest for life and her adventuresome spirit.
Trudy is survived by her children, Kathryn Griffin and her husband Stephen, of Lowell and John Leoutsacos of Temple, N. H.; her grandson, Christopher Lehman and his mother Helen Lehman of Peterborough, N. H., several nieces and nephews including her favorite, Pola Roumelitis of Peabody, and her best friend Doris Drew of Nashua, N.H.
Trudy was the mother of the late George Leoutsacos, who died in 2004.
She is predeceased by her siblings, Francis Stimpson, Anne Collins, Thomas Stimpson, Mary Head, Ellen Antonopoulos, and Ruth Ann Bujnowski.
Her family is especially grateful for the kindness and care shown by the staff of Saints Medical Center and the comfort of the Paul H. Sullivan Suite provided to them and their mother.
At Trudy’s request there will be no calling hours, her burial will be held privately at the Westlawn Cemetery. Those wishing may make memorial contributions in her memory to the Salvation Army, 150 Appleton Street, Lowell, MA 01852.
