Gertrude L. Ferreira
Devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother
LOWELL       Gertrude L. (Raposa) Ferreira, 91, of Lowell, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at River Valley House.   She was the widow of the late Joseph C. Ferreira who died January 2, 2002.
      A daughter of the late Manuel and the late Maria G. (DaPonte) Raposa, she was born March 14, 1918, in Lowell, and grew up in East Chelmsford and was educated in the Chelmsford Schools.
         She made her home in Lowell for many years, residing on Walnut Street and Lawrence Street before making her home at River Valley House.    She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and was a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality.  She was an active member of the Smith Baker Center.    Mrs. Ferreira worked at New Market Manufacturing, the Tower Mills in Billerica, and at the Wanalancit Mills until her retirement.
       Always a devoted and loving mother and caring and attentive grandmother and greatmother, she loved to spend time with her family.  Cooking and baking were hobbies to her, and she loved preparing memorable meals and treats for family and friends.
        She is survived by two daughters, Beverly A. Gendron and her husband, Leonard, of Lowell and Mary M. St. Jean and her husband, Robert, of Pelham; a son, William J. Ferreira and his wife, Rosemary, of Pelham; eight grandchildren, Leonard Gendron III, Leeanne Correia and her husband, Phillip, Derek Gendron and his wife, Lucille, John Quaglietta and his wife, Mousumi, Noreen Cosentino and her husband, Marco, Kelly Powers and her husband, Kevin, Michelle St. Jean and her companion Konstantine Buhr, and Greg St. Jean and his wife, Jessica; nine great grandchildren; three sisters in law, Mary Sousa of Chelmsford, Cecelia Ferreira of Chelmsford, and Viola Ferreira of Chelmsford; and several nieces and nephews.
        She was also sister of the late Hortensa Mello, the late Ethel Avila, and the late Mary C. Sears. 
           YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON FRIDAY, MAY 8.  

ON SATURDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL (978 OR 800) 458-6816. 

HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH AT 10 A.M..
