George William McCarthy
LOWELL George William McCarthy, 90, of Lowell, beloved husband of Virginia R. (Ennis) McCarthy, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 16, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
A son of the late George and the late Mary (Stafford) McCarthy, he was born October 2, 1926, in Lowell, and was raised and educated in the city, graduating from Lowell High School, Class of 1944. After graduation, he enlisted and served with the United States Army Air Corps. Upon his honorable discharge, he then continued his education graduating from Boston College.
A communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, he was an active member of the Holy Name Society, and a religious education instructor for a number of years. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America, and enjoyed golfing, music, dancing, traveling, and spending time in Florida. His greatest passion was his family, and he loved family gatherings especially with his grand children and great grand children.
Mr. McCarthy worked for the Raytheon Corporation for thirty five years as a controller and retired as an inventory manager.
In addition to his loving wife of 65 years and favorite dance partner, Virginia, he is survived by his children, Kevin J. McCarthy of Dracut, Stephen McCarthy and his wife, Roberta, of Tyngsboro, Dennis McCarthy and his wife, Angela, of Lowell, and Sheila Karlson and her husband, Bart, of Eustis, FL; his nine grandchildren, Christine Radzik and her husband Christpher of Nashua, NH, Shawn McCarthy and his wife, Maggie, of Northbrook, IL, Jason McCarthy and his wife, Kerri of Natick, Ethan McCarthy of Tyngsboro, Mikaela Hondros-McCarthy of Lowell, Ianna Hondros-McCarthy of Lowell, Cormac Hondros-McCarthy of Lowell, Charles "Chip" Karlson of Eustis, FL, and Garrett Karlson of Eustis, FL; his seven great grand children Thomas Grise, Xander Grise, Donesa Grise, Jazlynn Guile, Devin Guile, Abigail McCarthy and Annabelle McCarthy; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Gary McCarthy who passed away April 2, 1986, and father in law of the late Donna McCarthy, as well as a brother of the late Mary Healy, the late William S. McCarthy, and the late Noreen Beauregard.
