George Mendes Da Costa
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather

LOWELL George Mendes Da Costa, 76, of Lowell, passed away after a brief illness, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. He was the beloved husband of Maria Tavares with whom he celebrated over 50 years of marriage with.
George was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal on September 17, 1937. He was a son of the late Eduardo and the late Alexandrina Costa, both of Terceira, Azores, Portugal. George, his wife, Maria, and his children, moved to Lowell in 1986, residing in South Lowell.
He was employed for the Westford Regency Hotel for over ten years before his retirement. George enjoyed traveling to his home in Terceira during the summers where he would visit his brothers and sisters. He and his wife, Maria, raised six children together, five daughters and one son. In addition to spending time with his children, he had the pleasure of being an active grandfather in his grandchildren’s lives. George adored spending time with his family and his dog, Sadie. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son and brother.
In addition to his wife, Maria, he is survived by his five daughters and his son, Luis Eduardo Costa and his wife, Rute Ferreira, Filomena Marques and her husband, Marques Costa, Helena Pires and her husband, Virgilio Pires, Amelia DaCosta, Fernanda Faria and her husband, Paulo Faria, and Grace Costa-Meneses and her husband, Frank Meneses. He was also the father of late Irene Da Costa.
Aside from his children, George leaves thirteen beloved grandchildren, Sara and Sergio DaCosta, Julie Pires, Carina and Michael Faria, Pedro and Patrick Costa, Brigida, Mario, Luis and Fabio Araujo, Simon and Sofia Costa. He also leaves behind his great grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, and his extended family in Florida, California, Portugal, and Canada.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 2 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON SUNDAY. ON MONDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 11 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL STREET, LOWELL AT 12 NOON. BURIAL IN LOWELL CEMETERY.
