JOSEPH FREITAS
LOWELL Joseph "Joe" Freitas, 77, of Lowell, died after a brief illness Saturday, January 5. 2008 at Saints Medical Center.
Born August 25, 1930, in Lowell, he was a son of the late Joao, and the late Luzia (Gonsalves) Freitas. He was a lifelong Lowell resident and attended the local schools.
Mr. Freitas served with the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War and was stationed at Mt. Home Air Force Base in Boise, ID. He held membership in the Portuguese American Center. He was an avid Patriots fan and enjoyed going to Foxwoods Resort & Casino.
He resided in the Back Central Neighborhood, and was a communicant of Saint Anthony's Church. He was employed as a construction worker for over 35 years and worked on many greater Lowell construction projects with various companies throughout the area and was a member of the Massachusetts Laborers Union Local 429.
He is survived by two daughters, Attorney Dena Lusakhpuryan and her husband Alex of Lowell, Tanya Coutu and her husband Leo of Dracut, a sister Lucy Pitta of Lowell, and a brother Manuel and his wife Pauline Freitas of Lowell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Evo Freitas, and John Freitas, and brother in law of the late Beatrice Freitas, and Herbert Pitta Sr.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY. ON THURSDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL (978 OR 800) 458-6816.
