Frances P. Latham
LOWELL Frances P. (Mahar) Latham, 83, a lifelong Lowell resident, died May 28, 2008 at Lowell General Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late John P. Latham who died Aug. 17, 2001.
A daughter of the late William and the late Ellen (Crowley) Mahar, she was born March 8, 1925, in Lowell, and attended St. Patrick’s Elementary and High School, and as a child was the winner of the regional Spelling Bee and placed fifth in the Boston Globe Spelling Bee.
For forty six years she made her home on Broadway Street before residing on Middle Street and was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, and also attended Mass daily at St. Joseph the Worker Shrine. She was an active volunteer for St. Patrick’s Parish, and was a member of the St. Patrick’s Parish Ladies Sodality. She was also a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Walker Rogers Post 662, Ladies Auxiliary and a foster grandmother for Community Teamwork at the Magnet School. Her pride and joy was her large family and their many accomplishments. Frances cherished the time they spent together, especially time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She worked for 18 years as a physical therapy aide for Lowell General Hospital before her retirement, and could be seen working the Polls at various locations throughout the City on any election day.
She is survived by nine children, Theresa M. Masterson, and her husband, William, of Lowell, Laura E. Palayma and her husband, Edward, of Derry, NH, Patricia F. Casey-Lister and her husband, Laurence, of Nashua, NH, John P. Latham Jr. and his wife, Suzy, of Germantown, TN, Gerard M. Latham and his wife, Yvette, of Nashua, NH, Timothy F. Latham and his wife, Carmen, of Nashua, NH, Eileen E. Lloyd and her husband, John, of Pelham, NH, Patrick T. Latham and his wife, Karen, of Tyngsboro, and Atty. James E. Latham Sr. and his wife, Lyn, of Chelmsford, and Edward McCann of Tewksbury who she considered to be her tenth child; twenty two grandchildren, William Masterson and his wife Christina, Scott Masterson and his wife, Jenn, Maura Masterson, Kevin Casey and his wife, Emily, Sean Casey and his wife, Karen, Meaghan Howe and her husband, Chris, John Latham III, Brandi Matney and her husband, Gary, Nicholas Dodson, Michael Latham, Cassie Latham, Blake Latham, Parker Latham, David Latham, James Edward Latham Jr., Laura Latham, Catherine Latham, John Anthony Latham, Lauren Lloyd, Kristina Lloyd, Trevor Lloyd, and Kyle Lloyd; thirteen surviving great grandchildren Kelcie, Brett, Jake, Allie, Grace, Audrey, and Sean Masterson, Patrick, Margaret, Frances, and Jack Casey, Jada Kathleen and Kaylon Matney and the late Benjamin Hall Masterson; a sister, Marguerite Kuchinski of Whitman; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Helen Troy, the late Rita Falco, the late John Mahar, and the late William Mahar.
