Beloved Wife and Mother
LOWELL Fatima (Moniz) Fernandes, 62, of Lowell, died unexpectedly Monday, June 24, 2013 at Lowell General Hospital-Saints Campus. She was the wife of Henrique Fernandes with whom she would have celebrated their thirty-eighth wedding anniversary October 12.
Born September 14, 1950, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Antonio Moniz Jr., and the late Maria (Freitas) Moniz, and she attended the local schools in Sao Miguel. She met and married her husband, Henrique in the Azores, before coming to the United States in January of 1976.
She resided in Belvidere and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. She was employed as a machine operator for WNA Comet for over 35 years. She also worked for Paris Shoe when she first came to the United States. Fatima enjoyed spending time at home, shopping, cooking desserts, and especially spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, Henrique, she is survived by a son, Kevin Fernandes and his wife, Debbie of Lowell; a sister in law, Liliana Moniz of New Bedford; several nieces and nephews including, Gorrette, Charlie, and Sandra; and many great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many friends including John, Nancy, and Gabriela Mattheos and Mario and Maria Veiga.
She was also the sister of the late Joao Moniz.
