Evangeline 'Vangie' Sousa

Loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother

LOWELL Evangeline 'Vangie' (Silva) Sousa, 89, of Lowell, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at her home. She was the widow of the late Joseph Sousa.

Born August 19, 1920, in Lowell, she was a daughter of the late Martin and the late Mary Julia Silva.
Evangeline made her lifelong home in Lowell, and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and a lifetime member of the Holy Ghost Society. She had worked as a stitcher for over forty years at Fenway Manufacturing and then for Lull and Hartford Sporting Goods in Lowell prior to her retirement. She was cared for at her home as her illness progressed, and the family would like to thank the Greater Lowell Visiting Nurse and Hospice Association for all their support and care over the last few years and especially the dedicated and attentive care she received over the last few weeks of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Dockett and her husband, W. Gerald ‘Jerry’, with whom she made her home in Lowell; her grandchildren, Karen Dumont and her husband, Michael, of Lowell, Bryan Dockett and his wife, Kerry, of Valhalla, NY, and Kim Peirce and her husband, James, of Dracut; her great grandchildren, Ashley Dumont of Lowell, Brenna Dockett and Bridget Dockett of Valhalla, NY, and Jacqueline Evangeline Peirce of Dracut; her niece, Alice Gervais of Chelmsford; her grand niece, Judith St. Germain, of Tyngsboro; and her grand nephew, Kenneth Gervais of Quincy.

She was also the sister of the late Alexander Silva and the late Elsie Reis.
