Ethel Doris Martell

LOWELL Ethel Doris Martell, 93, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford. She was the widow of the late William J. Martell whom she married in 1945.
A daughter of the late Napoleon N. and the late Ethel M. (Monroe) Sabourin, she was born May 24, 1922, in Malone, New York. She moved with her family to the Boston area, attended North Quincy Grade School and graduated from North Quincy High School.
Doris was an active member of the First United Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Diaconate Board. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed the ocean, especially swimming at York Beach in Maine.
She had worked as a clerk for several local retail stores before retiring from Tewksbury State Hospital after fourteen years of service in Central Supply. She was a long time resident of the Merrimack Valley River House and Sunny Acres both at which she received wonderful care.
Her survivors include her daughters, Cheryl A. Mamalis and her husband, John of Chelmsford, Cynthia J. Lowrey Connor and her husband, Bruce of Newburyport, and Carol E. Beaudry of Massillon, OH; her son in law, Robert Manseau of Amesbury; her grandchildren, Katherine (Manseau) Richards and her husband, John, Melanie Manseau, Rebecca (Manseau) Barnett and her husband, Will, Benjamin Manseau and his wife, Jodi, Megan (Mamalis) Jakeway and her husband, Bruce, Kerin (Mamalis) Gauthier and her husband, Earl, Jason Lowrey and his wife, Jennifer, Jillian Lowrey, Christina Martell, Leonard Beaudry and his wife, Lindsay, and William Beaudry and his wife, Lexie. She is also survived by her twenty-three great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; her niece, Betsy Merriam; her 'chosen sister', Elaine Taylor; as well as many other friends.
She was predeceased by her daughter the late Charlene D. (Martell) Manseau and her great great grandson, Houston.

CALLING HOURS ARE FROM 4 UNTIL 7 P.M. ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.

 

THE FUNERAL SERVICE WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE FIRST UNITED BAPTIST CHURCH OF LOWELL, 99 CHURCH ST., AT 10 A.M. ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27. BURIAL IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING IN LOWELL CEMETERY ON KNAPP AVE. IN LOWELL.
