Esther E. Downs
LOWELL Esther E. (Burke) Downs, 91, of Lowell, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Willow Manor Nursing Home. She was the widow of the late John J. Downs who died in 1991 after Forty Four years of Marriage.
Born April 3, 1920, in Woburn, she was a daughter of the late Michael and the late Julia (Manion) Burke, and was educated in the Woburn School System. After her marriage to John, she moved to Lowell where she made her home in the Belvidere Section of the City.
Esther worked as a waitress at the Parker House restaurant in Boston, and then worked for Middlesex County Training School, and more recently she worked for the Lowell School Department at many different schools as an Administrative Assistant.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, and also liked to read. She was also an avid Red Sox fan.
She is survived by her son, John ‘Jack’ Downs and his wife, Maryellen, of Lowell; six grandchildren, Christal and her husband, Tee Kum, Shane Downs, Christopher Downs, Jason Downs, Raegan Downs, and Shalegh Downs; two great grandchildren, Cassandra Downs, and Avery Downs; and many nieces and nephews, including Sheila Edmonds, as well as her close friend, Helen Montgomery.
She was also the mother of the late Kevin Downs, and sister of the late Mary, Julie, Margaret, Agnes, Katherine, and Madeline.
