Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother

LOWELL - Elsa (Soares) DaSilva, 66, of Lowell, died Thursday, February 2, 2012, at her home with her family by her side after a sixteen year battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of Manuel DaSilva for the past Thirty Nine years.

Born September 28, 1945, in Ponta Do Sol, Madeira, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Helena J. (DeJesus) Soares and grew up and was educated in that area. She came to the United States in 1966 with her mother, settling in Lowell.

She worked for Grace Shoe, Joan Fabrics, Pleasant Dress, and Prince Macaroni before her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and a member of the Portuguese American Center.

Elsa enjoyed raising her children and grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. She also enjoyed gardening, animals, and cooking.

In addition to her husband, Manuel, she is survived by her son, Alan S. DaSilva of Lowell; her daughter, Anita S. Nickles and her husband, Corey, of Tyngsboro; her grandchildren, Aaron C. Nickles of Tyngsboro, Alex J. Nickles of Tyngsboro, and Cailey E. Nickles of Tyngsboro; her brother, Augustino Soares of Madeira; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON MONDAY, FEB 6. ON TUESDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL (978 OR 800) 458-6816.
