Elisiario P. Silva
DRACUT - Elisiario P. Silva, 61, of Dracut, died Thursday, July 30, 2009, at his home after a brief battle with cancer. He was the husband of Arcelinda (Bettencourt) Silva, with whom he would have celebrated their Forty First Wedding Anniversary this coming September 29th.
A son of the late Manuel P. and the late Maria L. (Conceicao) Silva, he was born January 13, 1948, in Graciosa, Portugal, immigrating to the United States from the Azores Islands of Portugal in 1966 at the age of 18. He later became a United States Citizen.
Living and working his entire life in the Lowell and Dracut, areas, Elisiario was a proud and active member of the Portuguese-American community. He worked in many ways to support his family, and retired fom his own succesful landscaping company.
He enjoyed a large circle of friends, he was a member of Saint Anthony's Church, the Holy Ghost Society, the Portuguese-American Center, and the Portuguese-American Civic League.
He retained his love of working outdoors with his vegetable gardens, flower gardens and his "pet" farm animals for the remainder of his life. Having gardens and animals to work with reminded him of his youth in the Azores. Elisiario's grandchildren were the greatest joy in his life. He enjoyed spending time with them, sharing his love of the outdoors and animals, sharing stories from his childhood, and attending local heritage festivals with them. He also enjoyed fishing with Adam and Brett, Chelsea's gentle touch, and riding with Travis on his electric scooter. He enjoyed spending time with his son-in-law Rick, and sharing his culture and friends with him. But, he was especially proud of the professional and personal achievements of both his daughters, Linda and Alison.
Besides his wife Arcelinda, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Stinchfield and her husband, Richard, of Methuen, and Alison Silva of Dracut; four grandchildren, Adam, Brett, and Chelsea all of Methuen, and Travis of Dracut; two brothers, Fernando P. Silva and his wife, Durvaline, of Lowell, and Walter P. Silva of Lowell; a sister, Edelmira M.
