Eleanor "Ellie" M. Carrigg
Loving Mother, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother, Age 93
LOWELL - Eleanor M. (Keane) Carrigg, a lifelong Lowell resident who most recently resided at the Merrimack River Valley House died Wednesday, January 1, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at Lowell General Hospital. She was born in Lowell, MA on May 13, 1920, a daughter to the late John H. Keane and the late Julia (Cronin) Keane, she attended the Immaculate Conception Grammar School and graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1938. She was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church in Lowell.
She was the widow of the late Joseph M. Carrigg, who passed away in November 1988. They were married in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 17, 1943, shortly before he was assigned to serve overseas in the United States Army during WWII. During WWII, Mrs. Carrigg worked at the American Parachute Company in Lowell and together they raised their family in Lowell. They were happily married for nearly 45 years and they enjoyed music and dance, which they did so religiously and "her Joe" was the love of her life.
She enjoyed spending summers with her family at Hampton Beach, NH and at Lovell Lake in Wakefield, NH. She was a loving and doting mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who was affectionately called Grammy or "Meme" by those who worshiped and adored her.
She is survived by her two sons, J. Michael Carrigg of Palm Springs, CA and Kenneth J. Carrigg of Amado, Arizona. She is also survived by her two adoring daughters who she brought much joy and love; Leslie Carrigg Campbell and her husband, Thomas R. of Wakefield, MA and Joellen Carrigg Flynn and her husband Gerald J., Jr. of Chelmsford, MA. "Meme" is also survived by her eleven grandchildren, Lisa, Michael, Sharon, Robert and Katie Carrigg; Erin, Jennifer and Ryan Campbell; Micaela, Matthew and Shannon Flynn, as well as her six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister in law Pauline McGowan of Lowell and brother in law Gerald Carrigg of Hudson, NH and many nieces and nephews. She was also the Mother in law of the late Deborah (Seaward) Carrigg.
