Eleanor A. ‘Ellie’ Mangan
CHELMSFORD Eleanor A. ‘Ellie’ (Thomas)(Gath) Mangan, 71, of Chelmsford, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Willow Manor Nursing Home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Edward ‘Ted’ Mangan.
A daughter of the late William J. and the late Mary E. (Mullin) Thomas, she was born September 14, 1938, in Lowell, and educated in the local schools, attending St. Peter’s Grammar School and Lowell High School.
She worked at Raytheon in South Lowell before becoming affiliated with the Internal Revenue Service in Andover, and retired from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. More recently, she had worked as the Activity Co-ordinator for Willow Manor. When she wasn’t enjoying family time with the children and grandchildren, she was an avid Bingo player, and belonged to the Cribbage League at the SAC Club and at the former Ste. Marie’s Parish.
In addition to her husband, Edward, she is survived by her children, Kathleen A. Pollock of Arvada, CO, Sharon M. Ribeiro of Lowell, Joanne Gath of Lowell, Sharlene R. Estacio and her husband, Robert, of Lowell, John E. Gath Jr. of Lowell, James S. Gath of Centennial, CO, and Thomas M. Gath and his wife, Michelle, of Arvada, CO; Ted’s children, Edward P. Mangan and his wife, Kathy, of San Jose, CA, Michael G. Mangan and his wife, Martha, of Chelmsford, Patricia J. Dungan and her husband, Lee, of Oklahoma City, OK, and Mary Eileen Mangan, PhD, of Somerville; Ellie's fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Ted’s eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Her brother, John J. Thomas and his wife, Susan, of Marlboro; her sister, Dorothea Thomas-Vitrac and her husband, Jean Vitrac, of New Braintree, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by her children, Jonna, Linda, Kevin, and Joseph, and her sister, Claire M. Kinsman.
