Elaine R. “Meme” Carnevale

Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother

LOWELL Elaine R. “Meme” Carnevale, 75, of Chelmsford, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Lowell General Hospital after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of Ralph F. Carnevale with whom she shared over 40 years of marriage.

A daughter of the late Francis H. Powers and the late Marie A. (Rudenauer) Powers, she was born on March 7, 1943, in Belmont. She was educated in the Belmont area and was a graduate of Western New England College. She worked as a civil engineer/planner for the United States Air Force with the Base Civil Engineering Group at Hanscom Air Force Base for over 10 years before her retirement in the 1990’s. She had the honor and distinction of being the very first female civil engineering planner in the history of the United States Air Force. She received an award for outstanding excellence while employed at Hanscom Air Force Base as well.

Meme, as she was affectionately known, was a longtime parishioner of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Lowell. She enjoyed shopping, was a wonderful cook and also loved to spend time at the beach, especially Cape Cod and Maine. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and her great granddaughter. In a life full of many achievements, being a grandmother and great grandmother will be her legacy.

Besides her husband, Ralph, she is survived by her 5 daughters, Linda M. Williams and her husband, Donald, of Nashua, NH, Angela G. Gagne and her husband, Paul, of Merrimack, NH, Kathleen A. Money of Hudson, NH, Karen E. Carnevale of Dunstable and Pamela J. Comer and her partner, Caryl McCabe, of Hudson, NH; her 10 grandchildren, Adam, Rachael, Aaron, Samantha, Shanade, Kayleigh, Kyle, Cassidy, Kristian and Ethan, and her great granddaughter, Ellie; her sisters, Frances Wood and her husband, Joseph, of Mashpee and Peggy DeFazio and her husband, Mario, of Southborough; a son in law, John S. Eras of Hudson, NH and many nieces and nephews.
