Edna E. Ryan
LOWELL Edna E. (Mosher) Ryan, 98, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at D’Youville Life and Wellness Community. She was the widow of the late John J. Ryan with whom she shared 35 years of marriage before he passed away. Her two brothers also predeceased her.
She was born in New Bedford, MA on March 14, 1918 and was the daughter of the late Frederick P. and the late Cedea (Huette) Mosher. She was raised in New Bedford where she attended the area schools before graduating from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with her nursing degree. She became an operating room nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and later at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, where she was a communicant at St. James Church. She was then employed as a head nurse at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, CT for over 20 years and was a communicant at the Church of The Resurrection. Following retirement, Edna was a member of the Homemakers Club and an investment club. She also participated regularly in Elderhostel (Road Scholar) courses throughout the Northeast, which provide educational travel tours worldwide.
In 1998, Edna moved to Tyngsboro, MA to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She became a member of the Senior Citizens Center in Tynsgboro. Eventually she became a longtime active resident at D'Youville.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. Ryan and John D. Croes of Litchfield, NH; her goddaughter, Teresa Kennedy-Daigle of New Bedford; and her nephews and their families, Frank Barous, Roger Barous, and Dennis Barous of Massachusetts.
