Edward D. ‘Eddie’ Duarte
Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather
LOWELL Edward D. ‘Eddie’ Duarte, 81, of Lowell, died peacefully in his sleep, Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of Maria (DeFreitas) Duarte, with whom he planned to celebrate their 40th Wedding Anniversary this coming June.
A son of the late Maria deLuz Duarte and the late Anibal Duarte, he was educated in the local schools. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
After his honorable discharge, he returned to Lowell and worked as a plumber at the Edith Nourse Veteran’s Hospital in Bedford for over thirty years.
A lifelong Lowell resident, he made home in the Ayer Section of the City and was a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Parish. He was also a member of the Portuguese American Veterans. His greatest passion was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Maria, he is survived by his children, Nancy M. Duarte-Lonnroth and her husband, Dale Lonnroth, Jr, of Derry, NH, and Sandra Tavares and her husband, Roberto Tavares, of Litchfield, NH; three grand daughters, Sophia Lonnroth and Isabelle Lonnroth both of Derry, NH, and Alana Tavares of Litchfield, NH; his sister, Lena Oliveira of Lowell; a brother in law, Joseph DeFreitas of Chelmsford; a sister in law, Virginia Milewski of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also a brother of the late Mary DeFreitas, the late Joe Duarte, and the late John Duarte.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7. ON THURSDAY, HIS, FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
