Dorothy N. (Medina) Dias
LOWELL Dorothy N. (Medina) Dias, 87, of Lowell, passed away after a long illness Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Lowell General Hospital Saints Campus. She was the wife of the late Jose C. Dias who passed away in 2009 after 50 years of marriage.
Dorothy was born February 7, 1928 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal and was a daughter of the late Manuel de Cunha Medina and the late Maria (Nazare) de Lurdes. She was raised in Graciosa where she attended the area schools. In the early 1960’s she relocated to the United States with her family and settled in the Back Central Street neighborhood.
She resided in the Back Central Street neighborhood for over 50 years and was a devoted communicant of St. Anthony Parish. Dorothy was also a member of the Holy Ghost Society. She enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family.
Dorothy is survived by a son, Joseph Dias and his wife, Margaret of Tewksbury; two grandsons, Michael Dias of Methuen and Christopher Dias of Tewksbury; and her siblings, Leonel Medina of Canada, and Alziro Medina of Providence. She is also survived by two sisters in law, Maria DeSousa of Lowell and Lina Dias of Lowell.
She was predeceased by her brother, the late Avelino Medina; and her sister, the late Maria de Lourdes Nazare.
