Dorothy Ann “Dot” Cortez
Beloved Sister, Aunt, Great Aunt and Friend

LOWELL Dorothy Ann “Dot” Cortez, 85, of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6th, 2015 at the home of her grandniece with her loving family by her side.
She was born on October 2, 1929, in Tewksbury, a daughter of the late Frank Cortez and the late Curina (Mello) Cortez. Dorothy was educated in the Lowell school system having graduated from Butler Junior High School and Lowell High School. She was employed at Educator Biscuit, Shaw Print, Happe Hudson, CBS Electronics and for over 25 years worked at Hewlett Packard before her retirement.
Dorothy was a devoted Catholic and communicant of the Church. She also enjoyed traveling on occasion with her friends. She was an avid sports fan especially of the Boston Red Sox never missing a game and knowing the names of all the players. Dorothy also enjoyed playing cards especially solitaire. Dot had a great sense of humor and always had a funny joke to tell. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She adored her mother Curina Cortez, known lovingly as Avo. In her later years, Dorothy spent a lot of time at the home of her sister, Mary Ringwood and her family as well as the home of her niece and caregiver, Anne Barnes and family. She also enjoyed walking down to her brother, John Cortez and his wife, Florence’s home and was visited frequently by her sister, Julia Morrison and family, and brother Luke Cortez.
She is survived by her loving siblings, Lugeiro “Luke” Cortez and Rita Wilson, Mary Ringwood of Chelmsford, John Cortez and his wife, Florence of Lowell, and Julia Morrison of South Lowell; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was also the sister of the late Catherine Silva, Margaret Silva, Anthony Cortez, Thelma Hodgson, Eva Abdallah, Frank Cortez and Ruth Machado.
