Doroteia Lourdes Veiga
"Beloved Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother"
LOWELL Doroteia Lourdes (Mendonca) Veiga, 84, of Lowell, died Monday, February 20, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family, including her husband of Sixty years, Manuel C. Veiga.
A daughter of the late Ramiro Lucas Mendonca and the late Maria daGloria (Sousa) Mendonca, she was born January 19, 1928, in Fontes, Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and was educated in the Portuguese School System. She came to the United States with her family forty six years ago, settling in Lowell.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and a member of the Seven Marias. She had worked for Nathan Solomon, Commodore Foods before retiring from Altotronics. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandson. Her hobbies were crocheting, quilting, and her flower gardens.
In addition to her devoted husband, Manuel, she is survived by her children, Manuel Jorge Veiga and his wife, Nancy, of Tewksbury, and Rui Manuel Veiga of Lowell; her grandchildren, Jason and Kimberly Veiga of Tewksbury, and Katti and Tyler Veiga of Lowell; her great grandson and the ‘Love of Her Life’ Evan Manuel Veiga of Tewksbury; her sisters, Deolinda Mesquita of Tewksbury, and Hirondina DaSilva and her husband, Manuel, of Lowell; her brother, Deocleciano Mendonca and his wife, Guadeloupe, of Graciosa, Azores; her sister in law, Angela Mendonca of Merrimack, NH; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Rui Santos Veiga, and sister of the late Clarimundo Mendonca, the late Joao Mendonca, the late Elvino Mendonca, the late Noe Mendonca, the late Manuel Mendonca, the late Bernadete Bettencourt, and the late Maria Labao.
