Donald P. ‘Don’ King
ATKINSON, NH Donald P. ‘Don’ King, 89, of Atkinson, NH, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Haverhill Crossings Assisted Living Center. He was the husband of Barbara A. (DeProfio) King with whom he would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on September 27, 2017.
Don was born in Lowell on August 9, 1928 and was a son of the late John and the late Alice (Perry) King. He was raised in Lowell, and grew up in the Highlands neighborhood of the city. He attended the area schools, graduating from Lowell High School with the Class of 1945. Immediately after graduating from high school, he enlisted with the United States Navy. While enlisted with the Navy, Mr. King was stationed on the submarine, the U.S.S. Irex, where he proudly served his Country during World War II until honorable discharge in 1947.
While living in Lowell, Don was a communicant of St. Margaret Church. He was employed as a Manager within the Telephone Company for over 35 years before his retirement.
For the past 19 years, he has resided in Atkinson, NH with his wife, Barbara. Don enjoyed playing golf. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Above all else, time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, brought him the most happiness.
In addition to his wife, Barbara King of Atkinson, NH, he is survived by his children, Donald P. King and his wife, Laurie of Lancaster, MA, Linda F. (King) McGrath and her husband, Bert of Londonderry, NH, Kenneth P. King and his wife, Susan of West Newbury, MA, and Michael J. King and his wife, Evangeline of Topsfield, MA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Zachary King, Samantha, Joseph and Hannah McGrath, Thomas and Heather King, and Athan and Jed King; his sister, Eileen Herbster and her husband, Gene of Andover, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, the late John F. King and the late William King.
