Deolinda ‘Prima’ Cunha

LOWELL Deolinda ‘Prima’ (Dias) Cunha, 93, of Lowell, died unexpectedly, Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Lowell General Hospital. She was the widow of the late Raul S. Cunha who died in May of 1989.
A daughter of the late Jaime and the late Maria Dias, she was born June 18, 1919, in Methuen. At the age of two, she moved with her family to Graciosa where she grew up and was educated. She married her husband, Raul, and raised her family in Graciosa until 1950 when they moved to the United States. She settled in Lowell and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church.
Prima was a gifted seamstress and loved caring for children and crocheting. She was also a member of the Holy Ghost Society. Her hobbies included traveling, especially back to the Azores where she visited this past September, telling stories, making cards, spending time with friends and family, and she would pray the rosary every day.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Tymowicz of Dracut; her son, Kenneth Cunha of Dracut and his wife; six grandchildren, Gina, Andrew, Christopher, Kimberly, Michelle, and Michael; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins including her close cousins Elisia, Mark, Analise, and Alana Saab; and her many friends in the Portuguese community as well as those at the Merrimack River Valley House.
She was also a sister of the late Laura, Maria, Arthur, and John Dias.
