Raymond Couture

LOWELL Raymond Couture, 81, of Lowell, died Thursday, August 11, 2011, at Lowell General Hospital. He was the widower of the late Marie (Twohig) Couture who passed away in January of 1996.
Born November 2, 1929, in Canada, he was a son of Loretta (Bernier) Couture of Lowell, and the late Raymond Couture, and grew up in Derry, New Hampshire, returning to Lowell to graduate from Lowell High School.
Mr. Couture made his home in the Back Central Street area of the City for the past fifty years, and loved spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He also especially enjoyed camping, bowling, and trips to Foxwoods. An avid sports fan, he was dedicated follower of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
For over sixty years, Ray worked as a roofer and carpenter in the family business, Couture & Son Roofing.
Besides his Mother, Loretta, he is survived by his children, Julie A. Balakin and her husband, Paul, of Dracut, Arthur P. Couture of Lowell, Donna M. Lopes and her husband, Joseph, of Pelham, NH, David J. Couture and his wife, Susan M., of Dracut, Dennis S. Couture and his wife, Donna Marie, of Nashua, NH, and Kathy T. McNiff and her husband, Richard, of Windham, NH; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; a sister, Joan Haggerman of Dracut, a brother, Ronald Couture and his wife, Connie, of Chelmsford; a sister in law, Clara Couture, of Pepperell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was also the father of the late Raymond Couture and brother of the late Maurice Couture.
