Charles D. Byrd Jr.
LOWELL Charles D. Byrd Jr., 64 of Lowell, was called home on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington after a long illness.
Born June 20, 1955 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, he was the oldest child of the late Charles D. Byrd Sr. and the late Shirley A. (Hood) Boone, and he frequently reminded people he was the oldest. He was raised and educated in Wilmington, before making his home in Lowell for the past forty years. He served with the United States Marines and the United States Army. He worked in the construction field most of his lifetime until illness forced his disability. He was a member of Christ Church United in Lowell, where he was a Trustee and a member of Voices Choir. In his younger days, he started a mobile food bank, serving most of Lowell.
Charles loved his family above all else. He also really enjoyed fishing, bowling, karaoke, food, especially Chinese food, and taking trips to Foxwoods. For many years, he was a member of the Elks Lodge #2070 in Wilmington.
His survivors include his children, Lionel, Charles, Jeanette, and Michelle; his sister, Shirley Moore of Lowell; his brother, Marty Byrd of Concord, NH; and his many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was also the father of the late John Byrd and brother of the late Vanessa Santana and the late Nicholas Byrd.
