Carlos T. Medeiros
DRACUT Carlos Tavares Medeiros, 59, of Dracut, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his loving family after a long illness with a brain tumor. Since 1978, he was the beloved husband to Glorinda F. (Silva) Medeiros, with whom he would have celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary October 2016.
He was born on January 19, 1957 in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal and was a son of the late Joao and the late Elvira (Tavares) Medeiros. Carlos was raised in Sao Miguel where he attended the area schools. On February 3, 1978, he moved to the United States, settling in Lowell, before making his home in Dracut since 1985, where he resided until his death.
Carlos was a devoted communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and was a member of the Portuguese American Civic League ‘The Reds Club’, the Portuguese American Center ‘The Blues Club’, The Holy Ghost Society, and the Holy Trinity. He was an avid soccer player, playing for both the Reds and the Blues teams until illness forced his retirement from competitive soccer. He was a passionate fan of S.L. Benfica, but also enjoyed many other sports. He loved cheering on all of the Boston sports teams.
Carlos was employed as a supervisor at Malden Mills in Lawrence for 19 years, and later at Vention Medical in Salem, NH until illness forced his retirement in March of 2016.
Carlos took pride in his yard and the grounds around his home in Dracut. He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Spending time gathered with his large family and his circle of friends is his most cherished pasttime. He also enjoyed his wife’s cooking until his last days.
In addition to his beloved wife, Glorinda, he is survived by his children, Jessica A. Rocha and her fiance, Phillip Horne of Jacksonville, FL, and Carlos T. Medeiros Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of Lowell; his grandchildren, Makenzie Rocha, Jacob and Caleb Medeiros; and his mother in law, Alcinda Silva of Tewksbury. He is also survived by his brothers, Joao Medeiros and his wife, Brina, and Pedro Medeiros and his wife, Lucia of Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal; his sisters, Elvira Medeiros of Canary Islands, Spain, Arminda Gomes and her husband, Augusto of Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, and Margarida Carreiro and her husband, Carlos of Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal; his sisters in law, Fatima Medeiros and Mary T. Medeiros, Lucila Dinis and her husband, Francisco, all of Lowell; his brother in law, Steven Silva and his fiance, Chastity DaSilva of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and extended family.
He was also predeceased by his siblings, Joseph T. Medeiros, Manuel Medeiros and Conceicao Medeiros Galvao; and his father in law, Januario Silva.
Carlos' family would like to especially thank Merrimack Valley Hospice, VNA nurses, all of the doctors and nurses at Dana-Farber Hospital and Brigham & Womens Hospital in Boston.
