Berlin Weems
LOWELL Berlin 'Ted' Weems, 92, of Lowell, died Thursday, May 1, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Barsorian) Weems, with whom he would have celebrated their Sixty Ninth Wedding Anniversary this coming December.
A son of the late Curt and the late Mollie (Anderson) Weems, he was born July 31, 1921, in Greeneville, Tennessee, and was raised and educated in that area. In his younger days, he was a talented baseball player and had the opportunity to play professionally. He continued to be a lifelong baseball fan.
In September 1942 in Greeneville, TN, he joined to serve with the United States Army during World War II and also served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was the recipient of many awards and citations including the Army Commendation Medal. He ended his twenty year Army career assigned as the Command Sergeant Major at Ft. Devens, MA. He later worked for the Mitre Corporation in Bedford, Mass as a supervisor of the Mail Distribution Center, retiring in 1982 after twenty years. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the First Church of the Nazarene of Lowell.
He made his home in the Belvedere Section of the City, and enjoyed gardening, loved to read, and loved history, especially current events. Above all else, he valued family, and especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by his daughters, Barbara A. Nealon and her husband, Robert, of Lowell, and Nancy E. Humphrey and her husband, Randall, of Lowell; his three grandchildren, Jennifer Nealon-Heibel of Kensington, MD, Robert Nealon of Nashua, NH, and Jessica Humphrey of Dracut; his four great grandchildren, Caleb, Kaylee, Alexa, and Ellie; his sister in law, Jane Weems of Newport, TN, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Bill Weems, Joe Weems, Walter Anderson and beloved sister Frances House, also his sister in law Elizabeth Sullivan and her husband John.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS VISITATION 10 UNTIL 11:30 A.M. ON TUESDAY MORNING, MAY 6, AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 11:30 A.M.
