Ascension “Alice” Pace
LOWELL Ascension “Alice” (Mendonsa) Pace, 86, a lifelong Lowell resident, died Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Saints Medical Center. She was the widow of Ralph Pace. Born February 19, 1924, in Lowell, she was a daughter of the late Antonio Mendonsa, and the late Anna (DeSantos) Mendonsa, she attended the local schools.
Alice was an avid tennis player, a bowler and a daily jogger in her younger years. She enjoyed bingo and belonged to St. Anthony’s Church choir for nearly 7 years. She was also a member of The East End Club, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Smith Baker Senior Citizens Center, The Senior Citizens Club of Centralville and The Retired State and County Employees Association.
Mrs. Pace was employed as a teacher in the Lowell School System for nearly 20 years. She was also an auxiliary policewoman and worked as a crossing guard for the Lowell Public Schools. In addition to those careers, she owned and operated a gas station in Littleton and owned and operated a small toy store on Chelmsford Street in Lowell. She also worked as a dress maker (stitcher) for Robert Sportswear of Lowell for over 16 years.
She leaves a daughter, Sandra Fava, and a son in law, Joseph Fava of Westford, a grandson, Master Sgt. Jason Wood of the United States Air Force currently stationed in Virginia, his wife Renae and 2 great grandchildren, Kaden and Ethen Wood. She also leaves 2 sisters, Anna Reilly and Adeline Pulaski both of Lowell, a brother, Anthony Mendonsa of Florida along with many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Mary Wain, Marion Cunha, Jenny Silveria, John Mendonsa and Roland Mendonsa.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS FROM 5 TO 8 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY. ON THURSDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 10 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH AT 11 A.M.. BURIAL IN LOWELL CEMETERY. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS PLEASE SEND DONATIONS TO THE LOWELL HUMANE SOCIETY, 951 BROADWAY STREET, LOWELL, MA.
