Arthur Picanso
Retired Lowell Police Officer
LOWELL Arthur Picanso, 88, of High Street in Lowell, died unexpectedly, Thursday, June 10, 2010.
Born October 22, 1921, in Lowell, he was a son of the late Albino C. and the late Adelina S. (Santos) Picanso, and attended the local schools.
Mr. Picanso joined the United States Army in 1942. He served in the Pacific at Headquarters Company of the A.A.A. 747th Artillary Company. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946,and attended the East Coast Aero Tech, Air Plane Maintenance School. Upon his return he worked at American Hide and Leather until 1953.
He joined the Lowell Police Department in May 1953. During his long career, he received two Commendations from then Superintendent, Francis M. O'Loughlin, for important arrests he had made. He retired from the Juvenile Bureau in May of 1978.
Mr. Picanso made his home on High Street and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. He was a Life Member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E. #87, and was a former member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by two sisters in law, Mrs. Glady Picanso of Lowell, and Mrs. Eleanor Picanso of Wilmington; several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Clare Cahill.
He was the brother of the late Lino Picanso, Louis Picanso, James Picanso, David Picanso, Arminda Ramos, Eva Dalton, Josephine Bettencourt, and Rose Lefko.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 2 UNTIL 6 P.M. ON SUNDAY. ON MONDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
