Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Greatmother
DRACUT Anita L. (Charette) McCarthy, 84, of Dracut, formerly of Lowell, died Monday, October 28, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of John B. McCarthy with whom she celebrated their Sixty Fourth Wedding Anniversary last month.
A daughter of the late William and the late Isabel (Misener) Charette, she was born April 13, 1929, in Lowell, and was educated in the Lowell Schools.
For fifty two years, she made her home on Puffer Street, and was a member of the former Notre Dame deLourdes Parish, and was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church. She worked as a seasonal employee for the Internal Revenue Service for eleven years and worked as a crossing guard for eleven years at the Morey School in Lowell. She retired from Digital in Tewksbury as an administrative assistant.
Mrs. McCarthy was a member of the Dracut Auxiliary of the Veterans’ of Foreign Wars Post. In addition to spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she enjoyed camping.
Besides her beloved husband, John, she is survived by her children, John J. McCarthy and his wife, Terri, of Derry, NH, Joyce E. Dastou and her husband, William, of Lowell, Jeffrey W. McCarthy and Diane Barry of Dracut, James M. McCarthy and his wife, Karen, of Hudson, NH, Janice M. Poulin and her husband, Michael, of Manchester, NH, and Joseph P. McCarthy and his wife, Lynne, of Lowell; her son in law, Victor Comtois of Chelmsford; her eighteen grandchildren; her sixteen great grandchildren; her brother and sisters, William Charette of Dracut, Dorothy Antonelli of Westford, and Lorraine Gilbert of Florida; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was also the mother of the late JoAnn Comtois who passed away in 2009, and was a sister of the late Beatrice McCarthy and the late Francis Charette.
