Alvaro C. Silva
"Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather"
LOWELL Alvaro C. Silva, 77, of Lowell, died Saturday, March 22, 2014, at his Lowell home, after a long illness, with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Maria L. (Santos) Silva, with whom he would have celebrated their Fifty Seventh Wedding Anniversary on April 5.
A son of the late Manuel Sousa Silva and the late Rosa (Costa) Silva, he was born September 23, 1936, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal and was raised and educated in that area. In 1973, he came to the United States with his family, settling in Lowell.
Mr. Silva enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, music, and dancing, but will be remembered throughout the community for his wine making skills.
For the past twenty five years he made his home in the Belvidere Section of the City, and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. He was also a member of the Portuguese American Center, the ‘Blues’ Club.
He was employed as a machine operator for Joan Fabrics and Sullivan Brothers for several years prior to his retirement.
Besides his wife, Maria, he is survived by his nine children, Joao Silva and his wife, Liyuan, of Newton, Elza Letourneau and her husband, Rick, of Derry, NH, Mary Jo Borges and her husband, Walter, of Lowell, Manuel Silva of Dracut, Maria Felecidade Silva and boyfriend Fred Olivero of Dracut, Cilena Daigle and her husband, David, of Nashua, Manuel Norberto Silva of France, Alvaro Silva and his wife, Kimberly, of Nashua, Michael Silva and his wife, Tracy, of Nashua; his seventeen grandchildren, his four great grandchildren; his sister, Maria Manuela Silva of Peabody, his brother, James Silva of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was also the father of the late Judith Silva and the late Alvaro Silva Jr.
